Community Sonographer (NOUS)

Vernova Healthcare is seeking an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Sonographer to join our small, friendly ultrasound team for 2 days per week. Our priority is to provide a patient‑focused NHS service, delivering safe, effective, and efficient care within local community settings.
Ultrasound clinics are delivered across the following Eastern Cheshire sites using newly replaced GE ultrasound equipment:
- Macclesfield Health Hub & East Cheshire Trust
- Knutsford & District Community Hospital
- Congleton Memorial Hospital
- Handforth Clinic
The successful applicant will work independently across these sites while also being part of a supportive multidisciplinary team. Our Healthcare Assistants are valued members of the service and provide support throughout all ultrasound sessions.

Main duties of the jobWorking as part of a small but experienced team, you will report directly to the Lead Sonographer. Your remit will be to be independently responsible for carrying out and reporting on non‑obstetric ultrasound examinations to a high standard, in line with local and national guidelines. Holding a CASE accredited ultrasound qualification (PgCert, PgDip) you must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom with HCPC/NMC/equivalent registration.
The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills and experience in general, gynaecological and superficial/small parts scanning. MSK and/or head and neck experience would also be an advantage but not essential.

Job responsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Undertake a range of ultrasound examinations in accordance with local, regional, and national guidelines.
- Assess the suitability of examination referrals and prioritise appointments according to clinical urgency.
- Provide high standards of patient care within a safe, clean, and professional working environment.
- Perform general abdominal, pelvic, selected small parts, and MSK ultrasound examinations (where appropriately trained) across various community sites within Eastern Cheshire.
- Work independently and autonomously, providing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to a high clinical standard, including accurate interpretation and production of timely clinical reports for all examinations undertaken.
- Use the CRIS system for hot reporting of all examinations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Work collaboratively as part of a small, supportive team and actively contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement programmes, and service development.
- Deliver appropriate, sensitive, and individualised patient care at all times, ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Undertake ultrasound examinations as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining professional accountability and adhering to relevant standards and guidelines.
- Maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge, skills, and expertise through continuous professional development (CPD), maintaining an up‑to‑date portfolio of evidence.
