The Environmental Health & Safety Manager will serve as a strategic leader across all facilities within the General Aluminum Group, driving initiatives that promote employee safety, regulatory compliance, and a culture of continuous improvement in environmental and occupational health practices.
This role is responsible for guiding facility teams in the development and implementation of effective EHS programs and sustainable solutions. The EHS Manager will collaborate closely with site leadership to establish and execute strategies that enhance safety performance and support the organization’s Green Energy objectives.
This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the well‑being of all employees and requires comprehensive knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization. A high degree of autonomy and professionalism is essential, along with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and leadership.
The EHS Manager will serve as a subject matter expert on all safety, environmental, compliance, regulatory and related insurance requirements.
Duties and responsibilities- Ensures regular departmental safety audits are performed to detect existing or potential accident / health hazards and environmental risks, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Make recommendations to EHS at plant level on amending safety policies, and procedures ensuring that timelines for completion of corrective actions are met.
- Continue the development and implementation of Safety Management System to create and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Guide the plant level EHS Teams to establish and administer EHS policies, procedures and programs across the organization to ensure effectiveness and compliance. Recommend and implement changes in accordance with regulatory updates.
- Mentor & Train plant level EHS Managers as needed.
- Assures all safety policies, company policies and procedures are implemented and followed in compliance with government regulations throughout the GAMCO divisions.
- Ensures that the Environmental Management System certifications are maintained.
- Lead the development and execution of strategic Green Energy initiatives.
- Serve on corporate and division safety committees; review and discuss safety needs, provide updates, training, DOT, Hazmat, OSHA and related safety and compliance information.
- Provide subject matter expertise in Process Safety ensuring industry best practice. Responsible for engaging with EPA/OSHA on all complaints, inspections and negotiations following any citations and/or notices of violation. This includes oversight on settlement agreements and associated enhanced abatement corrective actions.
- Responsible for ensuring all 3rdparty compliance assessments are addressed by overseeing implementation of the associated corrective actions.
- Provide assistance to all locations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
- Site inspections and corrective action(s):
- Responsible for updating, maintaining and auditing location safety standards and procedures on a quarterly basis.
- Assist in investigating all accidents to determine the root cause and provide recommendations that eliminate or reduce future hazard or risk.
- Review EHS spending at all facilities and advise on budgets as needed.
- Track and control inventory of safety supplies and equipment and work with division managers to keep adequate safety supplies on‑hand.
