Essex Bank Residential Loan Processor/Underwriter
Essex Bank is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Residential Loan Processor/Underwriter to join our team at a local mutual savings bank. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, organized, and possesses strong analytical and communication skills. This role is responsible for managing all facets of the residential mortgage process from application through underwriting while ensuring compliance with internal guidelines, bank policies, and regulatory requirements.
Job DescriptionThe responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Manage all phases of residential mortgage origination, including data entry, documentation, and file preparation.
- Conduct an upfront review of applications and make initial credit decisions based on company checklists and guidelines.
- Order and review appraisals, credit reports, title searches, tax transcripts, and flood certifications.
- Prepare early disclosures, commitment letters, and handle changes in loan circumstances. Ensure files are complete and compliant before submitting them for final underwriting or closing.
- Interface with lenders, customers, and service providers to gather required documentation and resolve issues.
Assist with underwriting preparation, including employment and income verifications, bank statements, and tax returns. - Support the post-closing team in finalizing commitment letter conditions to ensure smooth loan closings.
- Assist with compliance-related duties, other month-end management reports, and other administrative duties.

- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines, or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, loan origination software, and data center systems.
Education and/or Experience
- High school degree and one to two years of experience in residential mortgage processing, underwriting, or a related field preferred.
