Complex Claims Specialist, Managed Care, E&O, D&O
Liberty Mutual Insurance has an immediate opening for a Complex Claims Specialist with Managed Care, Errors & Omissions (E&O) and Directors & Officers (D&O) Professional Liability claims experience. The Specialist will work independently to handle a book of specialty lines claims under E&O and D&O policies issued to health plans and other Managed Care Organizations throughout the entire claim life‑cycle.
Base Pay Range
$92,000 - $176,000 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience).
Location & Travel
The role may require in‑office presence and travel. If you are within 50 miles of one of the following offices you will be required to go to the office twice a month:
Boston, MA;
Hoffman Estates, IL;
Indianapolis, IN;
Lake Oswego, OR;
Las Vegas, NV;
Plano, TX;
Suwanee, GA;
Chandler, AZ;
Westborough, MA; or Weatogue, CT. Policy subject to change.
- Investigate and evaluate losses to determine coverage and claim disposition.
- Use the proprietary claims management system to document claims, diary events, and follow up.
- Issue coverage position letters for new claims within prescribed time frames.
- Establish appropriate reserves for indemnity and expense within settlement authority, reviewing adequacy regularly and recommending adjustments when needed.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, identifying claim trends and policy issues for management and underwriting.
- Manage the litigation process, including counsel retention, budgeting, and billing.
- Lead case resolution, participating in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations within authority limits.
- Participate in the claims audit process and provide marketing support by meeting with brokers and insureds.
- Maintain required insurance adjuster licenses as necessary.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree.
- 7+ years of claims/legal experience with at least 2 years in a technical specialty (Managed Care, E&O, D&O).
- Advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, coverage issues, and product line expertise.
- Functional knowledge of law and insurance regulations across jurisdictions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced analytical, decision‑making, and negotiation abilities.
