Summary
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services to patients. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient's needs, care plans, implements, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures, and standards.
They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth.
- Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status.
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.
- Maintains accountability for care delegated.
- Assesses patients for potential safety risks.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety. Initiates interventions related to the risk factors identified.
- Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with peer on assigned patients at change of shift.
- Demonstrate quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner.
- Ensures patient hand-off as appropriate when leaving for breaks.
- Embrace the cultural diversity and difference of patients and team members.
- Respect the dignity of all individuals through the maintenance of the caring relationship.
- Maintains open lines of communication inclusive of actively listening.
- Seek experiences and formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Teach others to succeed through mentorship.

Other Information- Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals)
- Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals)
- New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only)
- American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement).

- BLS – Unit:
All Nursing Care Areas – Required upon hire - ACLS – Units: ED, ICU, CCU, SDU PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR, Float Pool specific to individuals’ competency and location floated. Cardiology focused units. – Required by end of orientation period
- PALS – Units: ED, PACU, Pediatric Areas (Either PALS or ENPC). – Required by end of orientation period
- NRP – Units: MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR. – Required by end of orientation period
- EFM – Unit: LDRP – Within 1 year of hire
- TNCC – Units: ED (Required Danbury, Norwalk), ICU (Preferred, but may have TCAR), PACU (DH Preferred). – Within 1 year of hire
