Pay Range: $17.00/hr – $19.00/hr (Actual pay based on skills and experience)
ScheduleApproximate schedule (June – mid-August):
- Monday & Friday: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
- Tuesday – Thursday: 7:00 am – 12:30 pm & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm
Rest of the year: on‑call employee for events.
Scope of PositionWork with the supervisor to prepare the menu and food orders, prepare and serve meals, clean and sanitize equipment and dishes, maintain a clean kitchen and dining space, ensure adherence to health and safety standards, and report concerns to the supervisor.

Responsibilities- Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety.
- Prepare menu and generate a food order for supervisor.
- Receive, check, and invoice food deliveries.
- Store foods properly and remove expired items.
- Prepare meals on time, appetizing, nutritious, and well presented.
- Attend workshops, meetings, and training.
- Clean up after food preparations, including dishwashing and trash disposal.
- Maintain sanitary kitchen and dining area per State and ACA codes.
- Monitor walk-in and reach-in cooler temperatures.
- Notify supervisors of damages, deficits, disturbances.
- Protect equipment and report inadequacies.
- Assist with setting up the dining room.
- Support the Salvation Army’s mission and values.
- Minimum 18 years old; at least two years of food preparation experience in an institutional setting.
- Experience cooking for groups 30–400 is strongly preferred.
- Experience supervising volunteers or staff preferred.
- Possess a Qualified Food Operator (QFO) certificate or be ready to obtain within five days of hire.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness.
- Manage food preparation to deliver prompt meals.
- Stand in one place for hours.
- Work independently with calm demeanor.
- Work flexible schedule (weekends, mornings, afternoons, evenings).
- Initiative, self‑direction, and ability to supervise kitchen volunteers and staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Familiar with State, ACA, USDA regulations for food prep and serving.
- Effective team player.
- Provide personal transportation to and from workplace.
- Respect and promote mission of The Salvation Army.
