Position: Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Signs and Marking) - #251229-2538FM-001
Location: Central Village

Overview

Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Signs and Marking) – Plainfield, CT. The DOT invites qualified agency employees to lead sign and pavement marking crews, ensuring safe and efficient highway operations. First shift, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with mandatory winter overtime and emergency duties.

Responsibilities
  • Plan workflow, set priorities, schedule, assign and review work.
  • Train staff and maintain crew procedures.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and prepare reports.
  • Act as liaison with other units, agencies and outside officials.
  • Lead crews on snowplowing, storm cleanup, sign installation and pavement marking.
  • Approve traffic control patterns and review garage reports.
  • Respond to public complaints and inspect contract/vendor projects.
  • Assist the General Supervisor with project coordination and inventory upgrades.
Qualifications
  • Residency within 30 miles of the job location.
  • Valid CDL (Class A or B) with Tanker Endorsement.
  • Medical Examiner’s Card.
  • One (1) year of skilled experience in installation, maintenance and replacement of pavement markings and signs (equivalent to Transportation Maintainer 3).
  • Experience with vehicle pumping, sign installation and pavement marking materials.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer software for reporting and scheduling.
  • Supervisory ability.
