Position SummaryThe Advanced Practice Professional (APP) coordinates and delivers comprehensive management of emergency medicine patients in the urgent care setting. Responsibilities include assessment, ordering tests, performing procedures, discharge planning, education, and collaboration with specialty teams.
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- National Certification by a recognized APRN Certification Center.
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
- American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification required.
- Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred.
- Eligible new graduates will be considered.
- ACNP or FNP certification.
- American Heart Association PAL certification encouraged.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in a Medical/Surgical PA program.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program.
- Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
- License or eligibility for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
- American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification required.
- Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred.
- Eligible new graduates will be considered.
- Masters level education as Medical/Surgical PA preferred.
- American Heart Association PAL certification encouraged.
- Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families.
- Completes pre‑procedure and integrated assessments.
- Orders additional tests or consults as appropriate.
- Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests.
- Consults with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.
- Performs comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings.
- Facilitates patient discharge and coordinates outpatient follow‑up.
- Develops individualized plan of care including teaching, discharge planning, referrals.
- Identifies unstable or complex cases and facilitates appropriate intervention.
- Recognizes emergency situations and initiates effective care.
- Serves as a coach and resource for staff and students.
- Collects outcome measures as needed.
- Utilizes critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning.
- Ensures safe use of equipment.
- Employs teaching/learning theory for education of staff, patients, and community.
- Promotes a learning environment responsive to patient and family preferences.
- Updates personal knowledge base continuously.
- Completes all identified clinical competencies.
- Provides educational programs to professional and paraprofessional personnel.
- Participates in community programs and literature distribution.
- Documents plan of care, interventions, evaluations clearly in medical record.
- Collaborates with leaders and staff on patient outcome improvements.
- Leads initiatives that improve emergency medicine practice.
- Works collaboratively with medical and nursing staff to solve problems.
- Participates in inter‑disciplinary approaches, program development, and education.
- Promotes innovation in care delivery.
- Participates in committees and task forces.
- Documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate.
- Reviews and interprets emergency medicine data and recommends changes.
- Participates in clinical trials and research studies.
- Assists faculty, administrators, and directors with outcome measures.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
- Requires strength and stamina; lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients; standing, walking, carrying up to 40+ pounds.
