Job Description & How to Apply Below

PSI-Polymer Systems, Inc. is a family owned, USA-based, global supplier of high-performance polymer melt processing equipment—specializing in gear pumps (melt pumps), screen changers, custom auxiliaries, systems, and rebuild/repair support. Headquartered in Conover, North Carolina, PSI serves extrusion processors with solutions designed to improve stability, yield, and efficiency from the extruder to the die, while also supporting applications in the polymer, adhesive, chemical, and food processing industries.

PSI provides customer-focused engineering support and operates a process lab to assist with trials, development, and special applications. With operations in the U.S. and Europe and a global sales/distribution network, PSI supports customers worldwide.

Role Description

PSI-Polymer Systems is seeking a full-time Sales Engineer for an on-site position that travels frequently, but is based in Conover, NC. This role combines technical understanding of polymer processing with consultative selling to recommend PSI solutions such as melt pumps, screen changers, filtration systems, controls, and custom auxiliaries. The Sales Engineer manages opportunities from discovery through quotation and technical review, coordinating with internal engineering, service, and manufacturing teams to ensure proposals align with customer process goals and operating conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own a pipeline of opportunities for PSI products and systems (melt filtration, gear pumps, auxiliaries, controls, and related equipment).
  • Prospect and develop new business through consistent outbound outreach—cold calling is critical to success in this role.
  • Gather process data (materials, temperatures, rates, pressures, contamination level, etc.) and translate it into technically sound recommendations and quotations.
  • Provide application guidance focused on improving process stability, output, and reliability (e.g., metering/pressure stability benefits of gear pumps; continuous filtration strategies).
  • Coordinate internally to deliver engineered solutions, including custom auxiliaries and system integration support.
  • Support customers through the full sales cycle: technical Q&A, proposal reviews, order entry support, and post-sale follow-up to ensure satisfaction and long-term relationships.
  • Travel a minimum of 25% to customer sites, industry events, and distributor/rep visits as needed.
  • Base salary plus commission; six‑figure earning potential once established, based on performance and closed revenue.
  • Commission is expected to ramp over time as relationships, territory activity, and opportunity pipeline mature.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with a longer industrial sales cycle: typical opportunities may range from a six‑figure deal size to several millions of dollars and can take up to ~2 years from initial engagement to purchase order, depending on the application and customer timing.
Qualifications
  • Experience in technical sales/sales engineering—ideally in extrusion, polymer processing, or industrial equipment markets.
  • Comfortable with outbound prospecting and high‑activity cold calling to create opportunities.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and build trust with engineering, operations, and maintenance stakeholders.
  • Practical problem‑solving skills for reviewing process requirements and matching them to filtration/pumping solutions and configurations.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams in an on‑site environment.
  • Bachelor’s or related technical field preferred.
  • Familiarity with adhesives, chemical processing, or food processing applications is a plus.
  • Competitive base salary with commission structure.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
