Surgical Scheduler / Catawba Valley Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine / Full Time Job Description
Summary of Performance Expectations:
Performs patient financial counseling, collections, and insurance reporting functions for patient accounts. Serves as liaison between the patient or patient’s representative and the hospital by opening a line of communication in which to offer education and counseling related to financial obligations. Responsible for all patient scheduling and pre‑registration activities for in‑office and hospital procedures/surgeries.
- Associate degree in Healthcare Management or related field. May consider a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience performing billing and surgical scheduling duties within a medical specialty practice or hospital setting.
- Comprehension of insurance plans and related regulations.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and healthcare reimbursement issues.
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Prior experience in financial functions of a hospital or medical business related to accounts receivable.
- Two years of related experience working with the public in application of third‑party reimbursement procedures and knowledge of medical financial assistance agencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency in record keeping and patient interviewing.
- In‑office and hospital billing experience in a specialty care setting.
- Manage incoming and outgoing referrals.
- Given training and on‑the‑job experience, incumbent should be proficient in the basic aspects of the position within three months of employment date.
- Healthcare patient accounting operations experience.
