Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Sewer II - Conover to join our team in Conover.

Performs and has primary responsibility for operations of single and double needle, top stitch, boarder, and serge machines, including, but not limited to, complex set up, adjustments, and operation of various sewing machines. Ability to produce quality (as defined by Haworth quality standards) complex parts per blueprints, product orders, and engineering specifications, within tolerance. Performs necessary quality checks, practices machine preventive maintenance, and performs general utility work to meet work schedule.

Functions
  • Performs duties to ensure department and plant meet daily and weekly workload requirements.
  • Performs inspections of incoming cut sets for quality, along with inspection of final product. Utilizes precision measuring instruments, such as ruler, and tape measure ensuring Haworth quality specifications are met. May repair flaws in product by making small repairs by hand stitching on upholstery line, evaluate errors and present findings to the department supervisor.
  • Performs set-up, adjustments and operation of various equipment, including all the following, single needle (flat stitch) machine, top stitch machine, zipper machine and double needle machines.
  • Follows all safety requirements and communicates any safety concerns. Participates with physical activities, engages in exercises to be more agile to move around.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of work area by performing various housekeeping duties, including work center preventive maintenance.
  • Frequently loads, unloads, pulls, and/or positions materials/parts, weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects by work partner[s]), requiring bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, pushing, and/or twisting.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Sews prototype pieces and complex / difficult upholstery pieces including leather and match patterns.
  • Monitors material usage and floor-stock to ensure inventory accuracy, reports discrepancies to appropriate parties, as needed by Supervisor.
  • Performs daily adjustments to machines as necessary. Assists other members with adjustments as needed. Assists Maintenance with troubleshooting equipment problems and malfunction diagnostics to minimize machine downtime.
  • Assists new members with training as necessary.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects.
