JOB SUMMARY

This entry-level Buyer position performs several job functions under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; three years of state or local government purchasing experience is required.

Special Requirements:

Experience and certification by NIGP or NPI in governmental purchasing, or ability to achieve like, is preferred. Microsoft experience in Word and Excel is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of current state and local government purchasing laws.
• Knowledge of Microsoft products, Incode purchasing and warehouse modules.
• Skill in computer, word processing, spreadsheet software applications, technical writing and ability to communicate effectively and efficiently on a professional level including public speaking.
• Skill ensuring all purchases are made in accordance with state and federal laws and the City of Conroe Purchasing Policy.
• Ability to type 40 WPM accurately.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills to interact with vendors for the acquisition of items and to ensure delivery in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate with department personnel and directors.
• Good communication and organization skills.

The work is sedentary and requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: fingering, handling, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motions, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
