Job Description

Purpose and Scope: It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired part‑time on a semester‑by‑semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Applications are accepted year‑round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part‑time basis. Adjunct (part‑time) faculty may teach up to five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teach a variety of Bachelor of Science in Nursing courses at various times and locations.
  • Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives, appropriate for diverse educational and experiential backgrounds.
  • Utilize a course syllabus following institutional guidelines.
  • Meet with and advise students before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress in achieving course objectives and inform students timely of their progress.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Mastery of course content.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong leadership skills; collaborative, teamwork, facilitation style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, and adult learning methodologies.
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology.
  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning.
