Design Engineer is responsible for creating and optimizing drill bit designs that meet performance, reliability, and cost objectives. This role blends technical design expertise with process improvement—leveraging CAD tools, mechanical engineering principles, and innovative problem-solving to deliver high-performing solutions while driving efficiency across the design lifecycle.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Design and develop drill bits from concept through production
- Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications using CAD software
- Perform engineering analyses, including stress, work rates, and thermal
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, repair, sales, operations) to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet cost targets
- Lead design reviews, incorporating feedback and driving design improvements
- Develop and maintain documentation for designs, revisions, and engineering change orders
- Support prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and internal quality requirements
Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude and keen attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize time and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Capacity to use critical thinking to solve problems
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management and cost organization
- Proficiency in CAD Software (Solid Works preferred) and engineering analysis tools
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or related technical degree
- Drilling experience preferred, but not required
- FEA & CFD Analysis experience preferred, but not required
