Mechanical Design Engineer - Sheet Metal Enclosures
Ameritex Machine & Fabrication is a fast-growing metal fabrication company specializing in generator enclosures, industrial electrical enclosures, structural weldments, and turnkey fabricated assemblies. We support customers in power generation, infrastructure, oil & gas, and industrial markets, and we pride ourselves on speed, quality, and innovation.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with sheet-metal enclosure experience to design and document fabrications such as generator and sound-attenuated enclosures, switch gear, VFD, PLC, MCC, and general electrical enclosures, as well as structural skids, frames, platforms, and weldments. This role owns projects from 3D model → flat pattern → programming → release to ERP, and works closely with production and project management to ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and delivered on time.
Responsibilities- Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings in Solid Works (Sheet Metal + Weldments)
- Generate flat patterns and program parts for lasers and press brakes (experience or willingness to train immediately)
- Produce clear fabrication drawings, BOMs, hardware callouts, bend notes, and weld details
- Enter BOMs, routings, part data, and revisions into the ERP system for manufacturing release
- Apply DFM principles to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, and cost-efficient
- Collaborate with welders, programmers, project managers, and leadership on requirements and revisions
- Support fabrication, welding, assembly, and problem-solving on the shop floor as needed
