* Position Summary:

* Provides preventative health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides services such as case finding, health education, referrals, and care to help prevent serious health problems. Supports the education process by working to ensure the health of students.

* Qualifications:

* Education/Certification:
- Qualified to practice as a licensed or registered nurse in Texas with an unrestricted license.
- Certified in CPR or BLS (or obtain within the first 6 months).

Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing, or pediatric nursing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of school health.
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing and literature in school health.
- Ability to participate cooperatively in school health nursing programs.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrate genuine interest in student health needs.

Responsibilities:
- Promote and protect students’ health.
- Conduct health assessments, obtain health histories, and evaluate health and development patterns.
- Develop and implement health plans; interpret health status to stakeholders.
- Refer students to appropriate health resources.
- Provide health education, counseling, and manage health emergencies.
- Coordinate health activities and serve as a health resource within the school community.
- Engage in research, policy development, and participate in IEP planning where applicable.
- Travel as required.

Salary: $100.00 per day.
