Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Conroe)
Position within the Texas Workforce Commission’s Vocational Rehabilitation Department located at 2218 Interstate 45 N, Conroe, TX. The role may be filled from VRC Trainee to Sr VRC based on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities- Assist eligible individuals with disabilities to prepare for, retain, obtain, and advance in competitive, integrated employment, including transition support for students from high school to postsecondary education.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community referral sources, businesses, employers, and schools.
- Collect and analyze information required to make accurate eligibility decisions (medical, psychological, school, employment records).
- Help consumers choose appropriate employment by assessing strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and interests, matching them to the job market.
- Collaborate with consumers to develop a plan of services designed to achieve identified employment goals.
- Ensure timely, cost‑effective service provision and consumer progress toward goals.
- Develop and implement a process leading to successful job placement.
- Apply best‑value purchasing practices and use available comparable benefits and services to ensure effective use of public funds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from an accredited institution (or equivalent coursework).
- OR Master’s degree in counseling or related fields (Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services) plus one year of related experience.
- OR Master’s degree in another major plus two years of related experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation plus one year of related experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Public Health plus two years of related experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in another major plus three years of related experience.
- Experience working with Blind/Visually Impaired customers.
Bachelor's Degree in a field reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation (e.g., vocational rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, disability studies, business administration, human resources, special education, supported employment, customized employment, economics). No experience required.

Physical Requirements
Positions involve up to 30% travel; transportation responsibility lies with employee. Employees must be prepared to travel to meet assigned consumers. The role requires the ability to lift or carry up to 10 pounds.
