Ameritex is a fast‑growing metal fabrication company specializing in generator enclosures, industrial electrical enclosures, structural weldments, and turnkey fabricated assemblies. We serve customers in power generation, infrastructure, oil & gas, renewable energy, and industrial markets.
We are expanding our estimating team and seeking a Mechanical Estimator who understands 3D models, sheet‑metal fabrication processes, and the unique challenges of high‑mix, low‑volume manufacturing. This is a career estimator role
, not a temporary engineering stepping stone.
The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for reviewing customer drawings, models, and specifications and producing accurate, timely quotes using Paperless Parts
. This role requires a blend of mechanical understanding, fabrication knowledge, and strong attention to detail.
You will analyze parts, identify manufacturing steps, build accurate routings, and collaborate with engineering and production to ensure quotes reflect real manufacturability and shop capability.
Responsibilities- Review 3D models, drawings, assemblies, and specifications in Paperless Parts
- Break down complex fabricated assemblies into manufacturable components
- Identify fabrication processes required (cutting, bending, welding, hardware, machining, coating)
- Analyze weldments, sheet‑metal parts, and structural components for cost drivers
- Interpret GD&T, tolerances, and customer notes that impact pricing
- Build accurate BOMs and routings within Paperless Parts
- Apply correct manufacturing times, materials, hardware, and outsourced services
Review historical data, runouts, and standard shop rates to ensure competitive pricing - Communicate assumptions, risks, and alternates clearly
- Ensure quotes meet internal accuracy and turnaround‑time standards
- Work with engineering on manufacturability questions and alternative design suggestions
- Coordinate with production on capacity, lead time, and specialty processes
- Collaborate with project managers and sales on customer requirements and timelines
- Participate in win/loss reviews and continuous improvement of estimating accuracy
- Follow Ameritex estimating workflows to ensure consistency
- Help maintain estimating templates, rate structures, and standard operating procedures
- Identify recurring issues and propose refinements to improve speed and accuracy
- Strong ability to read and interpret 3D models and fabrication drawings
- Understanding of sheet‑metal, weldments, assemblies, and hardware
- Familiarity with fabrication processes (laser, punch, press brake, welding, coating, assembly)
- Experience with estimating software or a strong aptitude for digital tools
- Ability to think through manufacturability and process sequencing
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and reliable
- Experience using Paperless Parts
- Background in metal fabrication, machining, manufacturing, or mechanical design
- Exposure to ERP systems for BOMs and routings
- Prior estimating experience in a fabrication or job‑shop environment
- Comfortable focusing on estimating as a long‑term discipline
- Strong communicator—able to ask clarifying questions early
- Steady, consistent, and deadline‑driven
- Thrives in a fast‑paced environment with high quote volume
- Competitive salary (typically $60,000–$85,000)
