Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager for the Intermediate Care Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocation Nurse, the Monitor Technician provides continual telemetry monitoring, as well as a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring admission to the Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing high‑quality patient care activities as delegated by and under the supervision of the registered professional nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital.

The Monitor Technician will appropriately communicate with physicians, co‑workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Monitor Technician must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Monitor Technician will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in‑services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.

• In collaboration with licensed staff, organizes patient care and general unit activities to accomplish required functions.
• Applies knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the lifespan to identify patient and family requirements relative to age specific needs.
• Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and his family with a focus on the developmental level of the patient and his level of understanding.
• Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient and his family with a focus on special precautions to minimize the potential for patient injury.
• Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse:
• Provides patient care utilizing correct principles, procedures and techniques.
• Accepts responsibility for performance of duties.
• Anticipates potential patient care problems and/or emergencies and reports these to the primary nurse.
• Provides a safe environment for the provision of nursing care to individual patients by maintaining the patient room in an orderly manner and assisting in maintaining neatness…
