Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor for the Labor & Delivery Unit, the Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adolescent, adult, and neonatal patients admitted for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to ensure safe and competent quality patient care and supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital.

The Registered Nurse provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Registered Nurse provides directions to Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel in providing patient care and must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development.

The nurse will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in‑services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the assigned area.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze data to identify expected outcomes for Labor and Delivery patients.
  • Develop and prioritize the plan of care to attain measurable goals.
  • Implement the interventions identified and evaluate the results, especially in relation to Critical Care patients (whichever applies).
  • Identify educational needs, implement and evaluate learning, and document patient/family education.
  • Demonstrate critical thought and judgment in the delivery of care related to Critical Care patients.
  • Deliver medications based upon continual assessment, safety and evaluation of patient response.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred or currently enrolled.
  • Current RN license in Texas and/or current Compact License.
  • 1 year current L&D experience required.
  • Current BCLS Certification required.
  • Current ACLS and NRP Certifications obtained within 180 days.
