Job Summary & Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Manager, the Interventional Radiology Supervisor and the hospital nursing policies, the Interventional Radiology Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients upon admission to the department. The nurse’s purpose is to assist and support the patient so that imaging procedures can be performed in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of the procedure (except use of radiation producing equipment), maintaining medication supply, monitoring patients receiving conscious sedation, keeping appropriate records, providing in-service education, communicating with physicians, nursing units, family members, and other nurses, and participating in on‑call duties.

What you will do in this role
  • Demonstrate leadership ability by planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating the activities of a group as delegated.
  • Satisfactorily function as a team leader or team member.
  • Make recommendations for assigning personnel to provide for patient care during assigned shifts.
  • Act as a resource person and give assistance to staff in performance of their duties.
  • Evaluate nursing and patient care goals.
  • Organize and conduct patient/family conferences as a team leader and submit documentation of meetings in a timely manner.
  • Assist in identifying learning needs and provide input regarding the evaluation of orientees and ancillary personnel.
  • Assist annually in formulating unit goals and objectives.
  • Participate in at least 50% of staff meetings.
  • Follow through with assignments, inform manager of an inability to complete tasks.
  • Consult manager during light workload situations for additional assignments or independently seek tasks needing to be completed.
  • Be willing to adjust personal schedule in case of workload fluctuations or other department needs.
  • Perform several tasks simultaneously during peak work situations.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse or an approved compact state as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • 1 year of acute care hospital experience.
