Under the general direction of the Clinical Coordinator for the OB/ GYN Unit the Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adolescent, adult, geriatric and neonatal patients admitted for medical/surgical/OB/GYN problems. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process in ensuring safe and competent quality patient care. The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital.
The Registered Nurse provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed assistant personnel in providing patient care. The Registered Nurse must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development.
The nurse will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in-services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.
Staff in this job category are responsible for consideration of development issues of patients in each of the following age groups identified.
What you will do in this role:
- You will assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate care of a specific patient population
- You will develop Plans of Care with realistic goals
- You will perform procedures basic to the general well being of the patient
- You will assume responsibility for own communications and communicates through appropriate channels
- You will teach patients and/or significant others about disease, healing process and treatment plan
What qualifications you will need:
- Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse or proof of application for licensure.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
- BLS certified
- ACLS certified (must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment).
- NRP certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
- STABLE certification required as a one-time certification. A new hire who has not obtained it before will have 6 months to complete.
- 12 months acute inpatient experience required
