Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor for the Labor & Delivery Unit the Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adolescent, adult, and neonatal patients admitted for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process in ensuring safe and competent quality patient care. The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital.

The Registered Nurse provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The Registered Nurse provides directions to Licensed Vocational Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel in providing patient care. The Registered Nurse must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development.

The nurse will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will collect and analyze data in order to identify expected outcomes for Labor and Delivery patients
  • You will develop and prioritize the plan of care to attain measurable goals
  • You will implement the interventions identified and evaluates the results, especially in relation to Critical Care patients (whichever applies).
  • You will identify educational needs, implements and evaluates learning and documents patient/family education
  • You will demonstrate critical thought and judgment in the delivery of care related to Critical care patients
  • You will deliver medications based upon continual assessment, safety and evaluation of patient response

What qualification you will need:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing.
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing is preferred or must be currently enrolled
  • Current RN license in Texas and/or current Compact License
  • 1 year current L&D experience required
  • Current BCLS Certification Required
  • Current ACLS and NRP Certifications obtained with 180 days
  • STABLE certification required as a onetime certification. A new hire who has not obtained it before will have 6 months to complete.
