- Use hot line tools.
- Work on all types of conductors.
- Install all types of transformer installations, make tap changes and install primary metering equipment.
- Locate trouble and restore service on all classes of lines, substations, sectionalizing equipment, etc.
- Make underground and submarine cable installations, including the making of joints and installation of potheads.
- Install pole type regulators and transformers to boost or buck line voltage.
- Phase and check rotation in circuits direct and with potential transformers.
- Make field tests of distribution transformers.
- Check for ground faults on circuits or equipment.
- Erect and maintain steel towers and substations.
- Direct work of assistants, instruct and train other employees.
- Make all types of transformer installations; do phasing and check rotation on circuits; trace and clear grounds and opens on series circuits.
- Do all classes of hot line tool work.
- Reeve blocks.
- Plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Check, handle and be responsible for all material removed from and returned to stock, and prepare reports and records.
- Act in leadership capacity as required.
- Direct work of assistants, instruct and train new employees.
- Traverse uneven terrain (wet, muddy, slippery, concrete or asphalt) with tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work in extreme weather (heat and cold).
- Operate in confined spaces.
- Work alone when performing restoration services.
- Perform physical tasks: digging, pulling, pushing, carrying, lifting up to 115 pounds.
- Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Operate trucks and heavy equipment safely and work around energized lines and equipment.
- Work at heights for extended periods.
- Work overhead from a bucket truck on energized lines.
- Climb and descend from wooden or steel structures, poles and ladders; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, feel.
- Execute emergency rescue operations for injured co‑workers.
- Use sound judgment to work safely in hazardous environments.
- Follow safety rules.
- Work up to 16 continuous hours per day.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Perform basic computer tasks such as time entry, task logging, email, training modules.
- Communicate effectively with the team.
- Manage stress and handle tense situations.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Work overtime when necessary.
- Willing and able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
- Attend and participate in safety meetings.
- Work under unusual surroundings and normal working conditions.
- Receive and transmit orders and instructions to inspire respect and confidence.
- Maintain neatness, cleanliness and orderliness in work and personal appearance.
- Meet the public pleasantly and tactfully.
- Understand the importance of providing first‑class, courteous service to all customers.
Journeyman Lineman – 5+ years of linework experience required.
Apprentice 4th Year – 4+ years of linework experience required.
As a condition of employment, this position requires a pre‑employment Fitness for Duty exam.
