Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Maintenance team. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for grounds upkeep and a variety of building maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and ready to support daily operations to keep our facilities safe, functional, and well‑maintained.
Pay is based on maintenance experience. The pay range listed is subject to increase after probationary period and time‑in‑service.
Responsibilities- Performing grounds maintenance, such as mowing, and landscaping
- Conduct preventative building maintenance
- Perform various semi‑skilled functions and general building maintenance tasks (e.g. plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning maintenance/repair, carpentry, masonry and block work, flooring installation and maintenance, painting, general upkeep, painting and pressure wash, etc.)
- Work with equipment such as but not limited to: jail doors, cameras, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, toilets, sinks, lawn equipment, and sprinkler systems.
- Tests machinery, equipment, systems, etc. for proper operations
- Support fellow Maintenance Technicians with advanced projects as needed
- Special projects and any other assigned duties
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A/C, Plumbing, or Electrical certifications preferred
- At least one (1) year prior experience in either facility maintenance is preferred
- Must be able to perform various skilled functions and general building maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, heating and A/C maintenance/repair, carpentry, masonry, flooring, painting, etc.
- Ability to operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment
- Ability to physically perform tasks including standing/walking for long periods of time; sitting/walking on uneven ground; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying objects up to but not limited to 85 lbs.; reaching, bending, hearing mechanical sounds, communication, crouching/kneeling; close and far vision, depth perception; handling/grasping objects; ascending/descending a ladder
- Knowledge of blueprints and schematics
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a background investigation
- Must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
- No conviction above a Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years nor have been on or currently on court‑ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense
- Must possess good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and the ability to work with the public
- Must have reliable transportation
- Basic working knowledge of MS Office products
- Must be able to work independently or with a group
- Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
- Willingness to cross‑train and accept additional duties as assigned
- Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
Monday‑Friday, 8am‑5pm. Must be willing to be on‑call, work adjusted shifts, and/or work overtime during times of high volume or local emergency events, which may include nights, weekends, or holidays.
Additional Information- Drug screen (1/2 cost = $25, responsibility of applicant)
- Physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant)
