Pump Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY

The Pump Mechanic performs several job functions under the supervision of the Superintendent. Generally, this employee is responsible for pump and motor repairs on all lift stations and water plants.

Education and Experience: Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial driver's license. Must possess a valid State of Texas Class II Collections license. Must be available 24 hours and be available to be on‑call every other week.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of computer software and programs.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate light construction equipment, and bucket truck.
• Ability (intermediate) to repair and diagnose problems with water pumps, sewage pumps, pump and motor electrical, floats and switches.
• Ability (intermediate) to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
• Ability (intermediate) to deal with systems of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
• Ability (intermediate) to write reports; prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
• Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to climb in and out of confined areas and to climb heights greater than 100 feet.
• Ability to utilize independent judgment and decision‑making abilities as necessary.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment, and with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use professional attitude, tact and courtesy necessary to deal with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
• Ability to understand engineer/supervisor drawings.
• Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to obtain licenses/certifications to perform work assignments.
• Ability to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
• Ability to understand and follow City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.

The work is medium and requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
