Shift Supervisor – Aerospace Manufacturing

Location:

Consett Pay Rate: £24.63 per hour Shift Pattern: 4 Shift Rotation Days: 06:00 – 18:00 Nights: 18:00 – 06:00 Breaks: 1.75 hours daily (including 30 minutes paid) Lead Precision. Drive Performance. Deliver Excellence. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shift Supervisor to join our fast‑paced aerospace manufacturing operation in Consett . This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will support the Machine Shop Manager in the efficient running of the department, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and customer expectations are consistently achieved.

As the first point of contact on shift, you will play a critical role in leading teams, coordinating production activity, driving communication, and ensuring high‑quality aerospace components are delivered on time and in full . Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Machine Shop Manager with the day‑to‑day running of the production area
  • Act as the first point of contact during shift operations and support effective communication across the production process
  • Lead, motivate, and manage team performance to ensure production targets and customer deadlines are achieved
  • Coordinate production activity to ensure priorities are met and elevate operational concerns where required
  • Manage effective shift handovers using the SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) framework
  • Track components throughout the production cycle to maintain delivery schedules and customer commitments
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and product quality
  • Demonstrate strong problem‑solving capability, turning operational challenges into improvement opportunities
  • Deliver team briefings, shift start‑up meetings, and handovers while ensuring clear two‑way communication between production teams and management
  • Compile and maintain training matrices to support workforce flexibility, development, and skills progression
  • Ensure performance metrics are maintained and communicated within the production area
  • Maintain high housekeeping, safety, and workplace standards
  • Control stock levels of raw materials and finished components to agreed levels
  • Provide accurate operational feedback to Production Management and Operations Support teams regarding delivery risks, shortages, or production concerns
  • Utilise production systems and reporting tools including Paragon, Oracle, Microsoft Word, and Excel
About You
  • Previous experience in a Shift Supervisor, Team Leader, Production Supervisor or Manufacturing Leadership role within aerospace, engineering, machining or precision manufacturing
  • Experience working in a machine shop or CNC manufacturing environment
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills
  • The ability to plan production activity effectively and meet demanding customer deadlines
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach
  • Experience working within KPI‑driven manufacturing environments
  • Strong IT and reporting capability, including Microsoft Office systems
  • Knowledge of production systems such as Oracle or ERP/MRP software (desirable)
  • A commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence
