The Special Education Paraprofessional will work closely with one or a few special needs students on a regular basis to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain the full benefits from their educational placement under the direction of the supervising teacher(s).
The ideal candidate will be certified as Highly Qualified by meeting one of the following criteria: completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 semester credit hours), possesses an associate’s (or higher) degree, or obtained a passing score of 457 on the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Parapro Assessment. Additionally, the candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others in grade-level, school, and District teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Following and maintaining knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Assisting student(s) to whom assigned in any physical tasks directed by supervisor.
- Supporting the teacher on methods, materials, and strategies for reinforcements on target children and implementing plans developed by the teacher.
- Aiding teacher, when requested, in communication between home and school.
- Participating in ongoing staff development.
- Helping plan scheduling for meeting the needs of students; helping collect and/or prepare materials to support student learning.
- Communicating regularly with teachers as to students’ needs and progress.
- Treating all information about the school, teachers, children, and their families as strictly confidential.
- Other duties, as assigned.
The contract length will be 185 days, and the salary schedule will be N - Paraprofessional. Evaluation will be based on local district policy and Arkansas Department of Education guidelines, and performed by the building administrator.
