Position Overview
The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer of Spanish to begin August 16, 2026. This position is benefit eligible. The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of Spanish language as well as occasional English-language courses in our Intercultural Studies program. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in second language acquisition, and Spanish for the professions (particularly Spanish for health-related professions and social services).
Candidates’ application materials should provide evidence of the candidate’s ability to contribute to a multi-language department that values a variety of perspectives. The teaching load for this position is 30 credits per year (approximately equivalent to a 5‑5 load).
- Master’s degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field
- Experience teaching language and culture courses to students from a broad range of majors at a US institution of higher education.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
- Evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology
- PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field
- Evidence of exceptional teaching
- Evidence of interest in ongoing professional development
- Demonstrable experience in second language acquisition or languages for the professions

Expectationsand Duties
- Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid‑term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University‑related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
