The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full‑time lecturer of Spanish to begin August 16, 2026. This position is benefit eligible. The successful candidate will teach all levels of Spanish language as well as occasional English‑language courses in our Intercultural Studies program.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in second language acquisition, and Spanish for the professions (particularly Spanish for health‑related professions and social services).
The teaching load for this position is 30 credits per year (approximately equivalent to a 5‑5 load).
Responsibilities- Teach students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
- Prepare content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course or lab each semester.
- Communicate with students after reviewing assignments.
- Calculate and assign grades (e.g., mid‑term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog.
- Track and report absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Post and hold regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines.
- Engage in University‑related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events, and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field.
- Experience teaching language and culture courses to students from a broad range of majors at a U.S. institution of higher education.
- Native or near‑native fluency in Spanish and English.
- Evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology.
- Ph.D. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field.
- Evidence of exceptional teaching.
- Evidence of interest in ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrable experience in second language acquisition or languages for the professions.
