The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will assist healthcare providers in a correctional setting by performing clinical and administrative duties, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, managing medical records, and coordinating care. This role ensures efficient healthcare operations while maintaining compliance with South Carolina regulations, facility policies, and infection control standards. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will also support patient education and contribute to a safe, organized, and high-quality healthcare environment.
How YOU can Make an Impact :
- Accurately dispense oral, inhalation, and topical medications to patients under the supervision of licensed clinical staff and in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Document all medications administered, including dosage and time, in the patient’s medical record to ensure accurate and complete reporting.
- Stock and maintain the medication cart and assist in inventorying and organizing medical supplies as needed.
- Monitor and manage on-site pharmacy inventory to ensure availability of essential medications and compliance with storage protocols.
- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from medical and security staff, adhering to MEDIKO policies and facility procedures, including maintaining appropriate chain of command and conduct standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- A current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role (i.e. CMA, LPN, RN, LMHP, etc.).
- A High School diploma or GED is required.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
- Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.
- Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).
