Job DetailsCoastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the full‑time position:
Law Enforcement Officer in the Department of Public Safety. The position is classified as Law Enforcement Officer II (JC20) with a pay band of 5. The job requires full‑time, 40 hours per week with a 12‑month basis. Hours vary and may include weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Proactively patrols assigned areas and observes for criminal and traffic violations and other suspicious activity; monitors patrolled areas and makes safety recommendations.
- Enforces university rules, state, local and federal laws, issues citations, makes arrests, and answers calls for service.
- Conducts investigations on accidents and criminal activity, secures, preserves, compiles evidence, interviews suspects and witnesses, and testifies in court.
- Participates in Alcohol/Narcotic undercover operations and other specialized activities.
- Documents all enforcement and investigative activities, completes departmental forms, and performs follow‑up investigations.
- Provides exceptional customer service to faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the community.
- Responds to emergencies in a safe and timely manner, exercising due care for all constituents.
- Develops partnerships with law enforcement and the community through community‑oriented policing practices.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Satisfactory driving history.
- No criminal history.
- South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Law Enforcement Officer Class I certification.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact successfully within a diverse academic community.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of young adults, with guidance rather than harsh measures.
