The Milling Machine Operator is responsible for operating the milling machine to mill existing asphalt to the proper depth before resurfacing. The operator must perform daily maintenance checks, report mechanical or safety issues, and may be required to perform minor repairs. Additionally, the operator assists in general site operations. Key duties include:
- Installing/removing auto electronics
- Adding/removing teeth
- Lubricating and greasing components
- Cleaning excess millings off the machine
- Checking and maintaining grade
- Operating rollers, power broom, tampers, skid steer loaders, and other equipment if experienced
- Driving trucks such as pick-ups, flatbeds, water trucks, and sand trucks
- Maintaining equipment and tools
- Cleaning around the job site
- Inspecting machinery for hazards or safety concerns
- Maintaining professional relationships and communication with co-workers
Requirements include:
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for long periods
- Climbing equipment ladders to reach the operator's seat
- Lifting over 50 lbs
- Climbing and standing skills
- Thorough knowledge of milling machine and asphalt road construction
- Safe and efficient operation of equipment
- Availability to work nights and weekends as needed
- Minimum of 5+ years experience with milling machines and road construction
