RN-Day Surgery-(PRN

Overview

RN-Day Surgery - PRN/As Needed -  at Rockdale Medical Center. Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and the policies of the organization. Provides perioperative care to surgical patients in holding area, post op Phase II, Transfusion services, Pre-op and Pre-assessment areas.

Nurse Manager. FLSA:
Non-exempt.

• Performs patient assessments and reassessments to recognize abnormal findings and takes action to address. Includes medication administration/reconciliation, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care. Prepares patient for surgery by inserting IVs, reviewing chart documents, interviewing patient, ensuring correct antibiotics are ordered, ensuring SCIP measures are followed, and reviewing and implementing physician pre-op orders.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Provides physician-specific discharge instructions.
• Gives injections and infusions as ordered. Ensures diagnosis is on physician order.
• Transfuses patients with blood products as ordered. Documents accurately on transfusion record.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

• Required Skills
  :
  Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Licenses: Current GA RN license.
• Experience:
  
  2 years of experience in perioperative nursing (pre-operative and post-operative specialty) preferred.
