Facilities Assistant III, Part Time (Grounds/Maintenance)

Perform a variety of custodial tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of College facilities including classrooms, office areas, restrooms and entryways. This part-time position is up to 19 hours per week located at CAC's Maricopa campus.

• Clean exterior building grounds, including walkways and athletic fields, according to established guidelines. Sweep and clean parking lots, inspect curbs, visually inspect grounds for cleanliness, report problems and recommend actions to deter vandalism.
• Perform grounds‑keeping tasks such as seeding, lawn maintenance, fertilizer application, landscaping activities, planting trees, flowers and shrubs, raking leaves, pruning, mowing, and applying herbicides per MSDS guidelines.
• Operate power tools and equipment safely, perform minor maintenance, and notify supervisor of equipment needing repair or replacement.
• Install, repair, and maintain sprinkler and irrigation systems.
• Prepare and maintain athletic fields for safe use.
• Process and complete grounds work orders and maintain a daily time/activity log.
• Set up tables, chairs, and stages for special activities or college/community events.
• Perform additional duties such as committee assignments and recruitment/retention of students.

• Education:
  
  Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations; may require special license/rating.
• Experience:
  
  Two (2) years of related experience.
• Special position conditions:
  Must own or obtain an Arizona Driver's License, be insurable to drive college vehicles, and may be required to work rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Background verification:
  Standard level required for employment.
• Minimum age: 18 years or older.

• Arizona Driver's License and safe vehicle operation.
• Knowledge of grounds‑keeping methods, landscaping, athletic field maintenance, and use of fertilizers and herbicides.
• Knowledge of DOT highway safety laws for grounds equipment and college vehicles.
• Knowledge of sprinkler and irrigation system installation, repair, and maintenance.
• Skill in operating heavy equipment such as tractors and backhoes.
• Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor and use hand/power tools safely.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to recognize and report emergency situations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with college administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Basic Level: General friendliness, courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in daily interactions; limited confidential information; contact with students and public.

Regularly stand or walk seven (7) hours a day. Use hands to handle objects, tools, and small equipment. Lift or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work outdoors in various weather conditions; may be exposed to dust or other airborne pollutants. Use respirator as needed.
