Field Crusher Mechanic at Fisher Industries

POSITION

SCOPE

The Field Crusher Mechanic is a safety‑sensitive position that performs routine maintenance as well as minor and major repairs on all equipment in the aggregate stock fleet. The role requires experience as a general crushing mechanic, welding, and repairing crushing equipment, and involves examining equipment during scheduled service to determine if additional service is needed.

Primary Duties
  • Diagnose and repair mobile rock crushing equipment, screens, and conveyors
  • Perform liner changes on jaw, cone, and impact‑style crushers
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, changing outerwear parts in crushers, checking/replacing bearings and belts on conveyors, and recording damage or misuse of equipment
  • Keep work area clean and orderly; maintain safe and responsible work habits in a shop or outdoor environment
  • Weld/fabricate chutes, hoppers, structures and miscellaneous parts as needed both in shop and in the field
  • Travel to sites to repair equipment onsite
  • Think quickly and adapt to ever‑changing field situations
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) with coworkers, even in high‑stress situations
  • Document and discuss with supervisor any major repairs that are discovered
  • Use personal protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other equipment as required by law
  • Work may occur in a mine or plant setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity and moving mechanical parts
  • Mechanics are expected to supply personal tools
  • Attend additional training sessions with different equipment manufacturers as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum of 1‑year previous crusher mechanic experience
  • Must hold an M.S.H.A. Part 46 Certificate (5000-23)
  • S.H.A. Part 48 Mining Certificate Preferred but can be trained on (5000-23)
  • Understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Knowledge of proper use of tools such as wrenches, impacts, pry bars, electrical meters, hydraulic gauges, and lifting equipment
  • Communicate well with shop and field crews, including technical support from the factory
  • Measure accurately with calipers, feeler gauges, and tape measures
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for working with heavy equipment and objects
  • Basic welding/fabrication experience
  • Basic torch/plasma cutter experience
  • Basic understanding of rigging and overhead lifting
  • Basic understanding of forklift operation
