Position ScopeThe Shop Crusher Mechanic is a safety‑sensitive position that performs routine maintenance as well as minor and major repairs on all equipment in the aggregate stock fleet. The mechanic must have experience as a general crushing mechanic who understands welding, fixing, and repairing crushing equipment. Responsibilities include examining equipment during scheduled service to determine if additional service is needed.
Primary Duties- Diagnose and repair mobile rock crushing equipment, screens, and conveyors
- Perform liner changes on jaw, cone, and impact‑style crushers
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, changing outerwear parts in crushers, checking and replacing bearings and belts on conveyors, and recording damage or misuse of equipment
- Keep the work area clean and orderly; maintain safe and responsible work habits in a shop environment
- Change and repair conveyor belts and weld up old steel hoppers
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) with coworkers, even in high‑stress situations
- Document and discuss with supervisor any major repairs that are discovered
- Maintain an orderly work area
- Document all services performed on equipment
- Use personal protective equipment, such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, protective clothing, gloves, and other equipment required by law
- Work can be in a mine or plant setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature, humidity, and moving mechanical parts
- Mechanics are expected to supply personal tools
- May need to attend additional training sessions with different equipment manufacturers
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old
- Minimum of one year previous crusher mechanic experience
- Must hold an M.S.H.A. Part 46 Certificate (required)
- S.H.A. Part 48 Mining Certificate preferred but may be trained on
- Understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Knowledge of the proper use for tools such as wrenches, impacts, pry bars, electrical meters, hydraulic gauges, and lifting equipment
- Able to communicate well with shop and field crews and technical support from the factory
- Able to measure accurately with calipers, feeler gauges, and tape measures
- Has knowledge of safety procedures for working with heavy equipment/objects
- Basic welding/fabrication experience
- Basic torch or plasma cutter experience
- Basic understanding of rigging and overhead lifting
- Basic understanding of forklift operation
