Our client is currently seeking a qualified Databricks Administrator to join their team remotely and manage the workspace with a focus on operational excellence, security, and seamless integration with cloud resources. You will work on the Cloud Ops team and serve as the interface between them and the Data Engineering team. This role will be pivotal in ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable data operations across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience configuring Databricks environments, interfacing with Azure services, managing credentials and external locations, and implementing workspace automation. While deep engineering or ETL development expertise is not required, familiarity with Databricks concepts and cloud infrastructure (especially Azure) is a strong plus.
- Set up and manage Databricks work spaces, clusters, pools, and connect Databricks with other Azure resources
- Configure and maintain External Locations and Credentials for secure data access
- Implement and manage init scripts for cluster customization and automation
- Document configuration procedures, share best practices with team members
- Identify and work with Tech Leads for opportunities for improvement in automation and organization
- Stay current with Databricks and Azure platform updates
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (using Bash, Python, or Power Shell) for workspace setup, cluster lifecycle management, and resource monitoring
- Enforce workspace security best practices, including role‑based access control (RBAC), credential passthrough, and audit logging
- Manage and apply Active Directory (AD) groups to platform content through administration and CI/CD
- Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards for data handling and access
- Build proof‑of‑concepts and prototypes to validate technical approaches with clients
- Ensure solutions are maintainable, scalable, and aligned with enterprise standards
- Work with data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless data access and workspace usability
- Collaborate with the Cloud Ops team to integrate Databricks with CI/CD pipelines and cloud
- 6+ years of software development experience with 3+ years focused on data engineering
- Advanced proficiency in Python, PySpark, and distributed data processing frameworks
- Strong experience with Databricks platform and Azure cloud services
- Proven experience in client‑facing roles with technical solution delivery
- Strong presentation skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
- Experience gathering requirements and translating business needs into technical solutions
- Expertise in data modeling, database design, and modern data warehousing concepts
- Experience with SQL, No
SQL databases, and data pipeline orchestration tools - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with team members
- Azure certifications (Data Engineer Associate, Solutions Architect Expert)
- Databricks certifications (Associate Developer, Professional Data Engineer)
- Background in life sciences, biotechnology, or healthcare domains
- Previous experience in consulting or professional services organizations
- Experience with real‑time data processing and streaming technologies
- Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment pipelines
- Understanding of veterinary/medical research workflows and regulatory requirements
- Experience with graph databases and semantic technologies
- Knowledge of GxP compliance and validation in regulated environments
- Cross‑cultural communication skills for working with global client teams
The rate for this position is between $60.00 - $88.00 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
