Business Development Manager (Industrial Packaging)
We are seeking a high‑caliber Business Development Manager (BDM) to drive growth through the sale of engineered, multi‑material packaging solutions. This role is designed for a strategic "hunter" with deep technical roots in the industrial wood (crating/pallets) or technical foam (protective inserts) industries.
Rather than selling commodities, you will focus on consultative, solution‑based selling—analyzing a customer’s entire supply chain to provide custom‑engineered packaging that reduces damage, lowers freight costs, and improves sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- New Business Acquisition: Identify and penetrate high‑potential accounts in industrial sectors such as Aerospace, Energy, Defense, and Medical Equipment.
- Consultative Analysis: Conduct "on‑site" packaging audits to evaluate how current wood and foam materials are performing and identify opportunities for optimization or cost‑saving.
- Engineered Solutions: Collaborate with internal design and engineering teams to develop custom crates, skids, and precision‑cut foam buffering that meet international shipping standards (including ISPM 15 compliance).
- Value‑Based Selling: Shift customer focus from "unit price" to "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO) by demonstrating the long‑term ROI of superior packaging design.
- Strategic Networking: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across Procurement, Engineering, and Logistics departments.
- Pipeline Management: Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation and RFQ response to contract negotiation and successful hand‑off to the operations team.
- Required Industry
Experience:
3–5+ years of successful B2B sales experience specifically within industrial wood packaging, custom crating, or the technical foam industry. - Technical Proficiency: Ability to read basic CAD drawings or technical specifications and explain the structural benefits of different wood species or foam densities.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in "hunting" and closing new enterprise‑level accounts with long sales cycles.
- Strategic Mindset: Understanding of global logistics, including how packaging dimensions and weight impact international freight costs.
- Communication: Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear business value for C‑suite executives.
- Annualized New Business Revenue (N ).
- Growth of "Multi‑Material" accounts (deals involving both wood and foam components).
- Pipeline velocity and conversion rate from lead to closed‑won.
