Summary

The Construction Estimator prepares accurate project estimates, including conceptual, schematic, competitive bid, and negotiated estimates. The role collaborates with project managers, support teams, and clients to ensure precision and clarity, building strong relationships and delivering reliable cost assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prioritize safety and production; always.
  • Prepare commercial estimates and quantity take‑offs for self‑perform and subcontract items.
  • Develop subcontractor trade packages and scopes of work.
  • Review all plans, specifications, and client requirements.
  • Prepare bid proposals with cost breakdown, clarifications, scope, and exclusions.
  • Process and distribute RFPs and addenda during pricing.
  • Prepare subcontract takeoffs for various trades.
  • Provide value‑engineering ideas, pricing, and documentation.
  • Create comparison sheets for subcontractor evaluation.
  • Provide bid notes to the project manager.
  • Prepare call lists and follow‑up coverage.
  • Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager throughout the project.
  • Maintain positive client/subcontractor relationships.
  • Continuously train and certify for work‑related jobs.
  • Ensure the highest level of safety and quality control.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Good physical condition; routinely bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift 50 lbs or more, stand, and twist for extended periods.
  • Willing to travel out of market/state to construction sites during all project phases.
  • Willing to work extended hours as required by project schedules or urgent circumstances.
  • Must pass pre‑employment screening, including DOT physical, background check, drug/alcohol testing, and random testing program.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles; CDL is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Team environment; valued member of crew and company.
  • Read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specs, mounting specs, testing procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced computer skills.
  • Excellent time, organization, and project management skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.

  • Self‑motivated with desire to learn and positive attitude toward others.
  • Leadership and coaching skills; competent in conflict and crisis management.

Position Type and Hours
  • Full‑time;
    Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; overtime may be required.
Travel
  • 10–30% travel; additional travel as needed on projects.
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 1–2 years of estimating experience in general construction.
Desired
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a construction‑related discipline.
