Overview

We are looking for a Director, Product Compliance to join our growing Product Compliance team. This role is a unique opportunity to directly impact Blackhawk’s mission of creating meaningful connections through payments, while developing your skills as a Product Compliance leader.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Expand your Fin Tech and Payments knowledge and utilize to innovate within the compliance space.

  • Keep compliance at the heart of the product development cycle in a fast-moving environment.

  • Be empowered to identify regulatory issues or opportunities and take a lead in driving initiatives to establish a high standard of Product compliance.

  • Drive BHN’s P&T compliance strategy.

This position is hybrid out of our Coppell, TX office (Wednesdays & Thursdays).

Responsibilities

Product and regulatory change design:

  • Develop and maintain a strong Product & Technology (P&T) Leadership relationship and network to influence the building of compliant-by-design products and services.
  • Utilize regulatory analysis of new products and services in the industry to drive the strategic P&T roadmap such that compliance remains a key differentiator.
  • Advise P&T on regulatory controls implementation in a customer-oriented manner while adhering to regulatory requirements in line with Compliance policies.
  • Enforce P&T accountability to ensure compliance controls are both efficient and consistently implemented prior to launch and through change.
  • Continue to gain and utilize industry and regulatory subject matter expertise to recommend innovative technologies and risk‑based design, controls, and processes for implementation and change.
  • Ensure that implementation plans are executed in a timely manner while negotiating exceptional use cases between P&T and Compliance Officers (second line).
  • Design and implement the approach for ongoing monitoring and regulatory change gap analysis, to ensure Products remain compliant.
  • Participate in strategic Product/Client discussions that require complex compliance solutions.
Audit, risk remediation:
  • Define and oversee a process for ensuring Compliance Audit and Risk issues are remediated by P&T on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate compliance‑related audits impacting P&T and, where required, challenge audit findings in collaboration with the Compliance second line and Product teams.
  • Ensure that remediation plans are agreed upon across lines and executed promptly.
  • Advise P&T on interpreting audit results and improving processes to avoid regulatory breaches and incidents.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Product health reporting to improve Product visibility into compliance risks and inform product strategy.
Qualifications
  • 10 years’ experience in Regulatory Compliance or related Product Risk roles.
  • Ability to define and drive business decisions by P&T, Sales, Compliance, and Risk teams on product design and control/requirements execution.
  • Deep understanding of the payments industry.
  • Stong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory frameworks and apply them effectively using a risk‑based approach.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of our product and service offerings, customers, and company, and how they are impacted by regulations (including privacy and financial crime).
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and identify key areas of improvement or innovation to improve the customer experience.
  • Effective communication skills with Product Managers and Engineers, providing practical, actionable, and value‑added recommendations and requirements.
