Join the Coppell Police Department as a Property and Evidence Technician
, a non‑sworn role designed for professionals with hands‑on law enforcement experience in property and evidence room operations. This position is ideal for someone who has managed evidence intake, storage, documentation, and court‑ordered disposition while maintaining a precise chain of custody in a highly regulated environment. You’ll work closely with officers, prosecutors, and court partners to ensure legal compliance, accuracy, and accountability—while contributing to process improvements that strengthen efficiency and public trust.
If you bring at least two years of direct property and evidence management experience and take pride in precision, organization, and integrity, this full‑time role offers a meaningful way to serve the Coppell community.
The Property and Evidence Technician works a standard 40‑hour work week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the ability to flex the schedule when necessary to support departmental needs. May occasionally be required to work outside of standard hours or overtime based on operational or project demands.
Pay PlanThis opportunity is non‑exempt and on Pay Grade 7. The full Pay Grade Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade. Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity.

Interview Experience
- Associate’s degree with coursework in criminal justice, forensic science, or a related field. Relevant training through a recognized property and evidence organization may substitute for the degree requirement.
- 2+ years of experience in law enforcement with direct responsibility for property and evidence room operations, including property/evidence management and court‑ordered property disposition.
- Must be eligible for CJIS Certification.
- Must possess 1 certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months post‑hire:
Texas Association of Property/Evidence Inventory (TAPEIT) or International Association for Property and Evidence (IAPE). - Valid State of Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of department policies, state and federal laws, and best practices.
- Understanding of laws, rules, and guidelines governing the integrity, chain of custody, and disposal of property and evidence.
- Strong knowledge of property and evidence handling procedures.
Skills
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying laws, regulations, and policies to make informed decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise interactions.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including evidence tracking software and Microsoft Office.
- Effective problem solving and decision‑making skills.
Abilities
- Ability to give effective verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, other law enforcement agencies, judicial officials, and the public.
- Capacity to work cooperatively, calmly, and diplomatically with a diverse public, various department segments, and external agencies.

- Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and maintaining the integrity of property and evidence processes.
