PRIMARY PURPOSEAssist librarian in the administration of the school library. Perform duties assigned by the campus librarian.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation / Certification
- 48 hours college credit or
- Associate’s Degree or higher or
- High School Diploma or GED with Region 12 Paraprofessional Certificate
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Proficient use of computers and Microsoft software applications
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well with students and create an inviting atmosphere for the school library
- Must be willing to learn the collection to provide reader’s advisory in the absence of the librarian
Experience
Previous experience in technology applications and/or extensive knowledge of library operations and software preferred.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Assist users in locating materials, online database usage and troubleshooting technology equipment.
- Work directly with the librarian to promote reading incentive programs on the campus or in the library.
- Operate the media center automated circulation system to check books and materials in and out.
- Create eye-catching displays and bulletin boards for the purpose of reading promotion or special programs.
- Assist the librarian in the receipt of books and supply orders.
- Shelve books, file materials, clean equipment and maintain an overall neat appearance of the library.
- Consult with the librarian on teacher requests, needs or training opportunities.
- Repair books, process magazines, materials and equipment in a timely manner.
- Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library materials.
- Supervise library operations in the absence of the librarian.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Personal computers, printers, copiers, document cameras, data projectors, automatic response systems, wireless slates, digital cameras and laptops.
Mental Demands Reading; ability to communicate effectively, operate a personal computer, file books following Dewey decimal system, and work with continuous interruptions.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors Climbing, stretching, shelving, frequent lifting of books or boxes (up to 50 lbs.) and equipment.
