RolePipelayer
We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer to join our civil construction team. In this role, you will install underground utility systems including water, sanitary sewer, storm, and hydro infrastructure while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-focused, and experienced working collaboratively with crews to deliver work in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Install and align pipe systems for civil infrastructure projects, including water, sanitary sewer, storm, and hydro services, in accordance with drawings, specifications, and grade requirements.
- Work closely with the foreman, operators, and crew members to ensure pipe placement, elevation, and installation meet project standards.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following company safety policies, participating in safety meetings, and identifying hazards on site.
- Support the safe assembly, installation, and use of trench shoring and other excavation safety systems.
- Ensure proper bedding, backfill, and compaction around installed pipe to maintain alignment, support, and long-term system integrity.
- Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Assist with daily site activities as required to support overall crew productivity and project progress.
To succeed in this role, you bring hands-on utility installation experience, strong knowledge of site safety practices, and the ability to work effectively in demanding outdoor construction environments.
- Experience installing civil utilities, including storm, sanitary sewer, water, and hydro systems.
- Proficiency using pipe lasers, rotary lasers, and other layout or grade-checking tools.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of pipe grading, surveying, and utility installation best practices.
- Strong understanding of hazards associated with civil construction and the ability to communicate safety concerns clearly and promptly.
- First Aid, Confined Space, and Fall Protection training are considered assets.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse crew.
- Physical ability to perform demanding manual work, including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required to meet project needs.
- A dependable work ethic, willingness to learn, and commitment to producing quality work.
- Unionized base wage of $44.00 per hour, with compensation subject to negotiation based on experience.
- An additional 13% of gross earnings in lieu of vacation and statutory holiday pay.
