The Student Assistant, Career Centre role is ideal for a student who is passionate about volunteerism, event planning, communications and student engagement. You’ll play a key role in assisting in the running of the Career Centre Volunteer Program, promoting career-related programs and helping execute events that connect students with employers and career development opportunities.
The Student Assistant, Career Centre will provide support to both the Events Coordinator and the Career Centre Volunteer Program, as well as the Promotions Coordinator, Business Development.
Responsibilities- Volunteer Program and Events Support
- Assist with the planning, logistics and running of the Career Centre Volunteer Program.
- Build and grow a community of student volunteers interested in promoting workshops, programs, activities and services of the Career Centre to Douglas College students.
- Assist with training new volunteers including running onboarding sessions and regular team meetings; and helping volunteers enhance their knowledge of career development skills.
- Assist in increasing student engagement and sign-ups with all Career Centre activities, workshops and programs.
- Preparation of the weekly Career Centre Volunteer Newsletter.
- Assist with event planning including marketing, event set-up and take-down, attendee registration, and other onsite support as needed.
Promotions Support
- Assist in creating and scheduling social media content (Instagram, Linked In, etc.) for all current and past students to learn about the Career Centre services
- Assist with designing, writing/editing and reformatting digital and printed communications for students, faculty and employers to keep promotional items fresh and current.
- Design promotional materials such as posters, digital signage, and newsletters
- Using testimonials from employers, faculty advisors and students for publication on Career Centre social media platforms
- Assist with special projects as required
The Student Assistant, Career Centre will primarily be based at the New Westminster Campus or Anvil Office Tower, with occasional shifts at the Coquitlam campus.
To be Successful in this Role You Will Need:
- Effective communication skills – able to approach people to share the benefits of the Career Centre programs and services
