$31.53 – $36.94 per hour. Salary placement on scale based on qualifications and experience relevant to position.
OpportunityThe Career Coach contributes to the success of Douglas College and its community of learners. The Career Coach will be responsible for assisting program participants to find employment in the construction sector. The intent of the Lather Program is to improve employment outcomes for participants by preparing them for specialized trades training as a Level 1 Apprentice and support their employment in the trades sector.
Responsibilities- Program marketing, participant recruitment and eligibility screening.
- Support individualized needs assessment and action planning.
- Assisting participants prepare for Apprenticeship training and a career in the trades.
- Facilitate research in the industry and the local labour market.
- Identifying and addressing clients’ employment barriers.
- Coach effective strategies specific to their occupational goal.
- Preparing and facilitating face‑to‑face occupation specific workshops.
- Ongoing case management, follow up and job placement monitoring.
- Reporting and tracking participant outcomes and activities with accuracy.
- Establishing priorities, setting goals and meeting deadlines.
- Adapting to constantly changing requirements and working well under pressure.
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, program participants, community service providers, regulatory bodies, and employers.
- Maintaining up to date knowledge of industry requirements and the labour market.

- Post‑secondary degree or equivalent experience in employment services.
- Experience in the trades sector.
- Knowledge of Skills for Success an asset.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience facilitating workplace orientation and delivering career development services.
- Certificate or diploma in job development (an asset).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Career Development Practitioner certification (an asset).
- Solid experience meeting contract performance targets.
- Proven experience with leading, moderating workshops.
- Excellent team player; ability to calmly handle changing circumstances.
- Travel within Lower mainland is required.
This contract position is 40 hours per week located at the Coquitlam Campus. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am–5:00pm.
