Regular Probationary Instructor – Vision and Hearing Technologies

Location:

Coquitlam Campus, Vancouver Island, Canada

Salary Range: $71,846 – $115,129 per annum (faculty salary scale based on education, certification and experience).

The Opportunity
The Opticianry Program at Douglas College invites applications for a regular probationary instructor. This two‑year Diploma Program equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience required to become licensed Opticians.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and deliver course content and learning activities in college courses.

• Facilitate student learning, provide academic advice and maintain quality learner‑centered instruction.

• Evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback.

• Develop and maintain curriculum and instructional materials.

• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the program’s teaching and learning objectives.

Qualifications

Current licence as an Optician/Contact Lens Fitter in good standing with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia, with certification in Automated Refraction.

Experience teaching in clinical, classroom and/or laboratory settings in an Opticianry‑related program or equivalent.

At least five years of current, broad clinical experience with a sound foundation in Opticianry.

Curriculum development and maintenance experience/expertise.

Effective interpersonal skills, initiative and creativity.

Self‑directedness, strong work ethic and excellent writing ability.

Adept at collaborating and contributing effectively to team activities.

Satisfactory current references.

Additional Information
Starting semester:
Fall 2026. Primary place of work:
Coquitlam campus. Workload will be assigned annually based on available sections. The position will remain open until filled.
