DOF Canada is currently seeking multiple candidates for the position of
Master to work on Canadian Flagged Offshore Support Vessels. Offshore work schedule will be based on a 28-day rotation. Responsibilities
  • The Master has the overall responsibility managing the safety and environmental preventive requirements on all aspects of the vessel and ensuring that all key shipboard operations are identified, risk assessed and mitigated;
  • Responsible for implementing the Company's policies and Safety Management System, motivating the crew in the observation of such policies, issuing appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner, verifying that the requirements of the SMS are complied with and reviewing the system and reporting any deficiencies;
  • Responsible for ensuring the vessel complies with all Flag State, Classification Society and Local Rules and Regulations which affect the safe and efficient operation of the vessel;
  • Responsible for the overall management, planning, organization and control of all vessel activities. Although the Master cannot delegate his responsibilities, he/she should delegate certain duties to his management team in line with their specific job description to ensure such responsibilities are fulfilled;
  • As such, the Master shall ensure that planned maintenance and routines are in place and being adhered to for all onboard equipment and systems, including safety equipment, engine and auxiliary machinery, cranes and dynamic positioning systems;
  • Responsible for ensuring that all marine personnel onboard the vessel are in possession of the appropriate qualifications and certification for their respective rank and for ensuring that all new personnel are provided with appropriate familiarization and guidance on the vessels layout, capabilities, hazards, emergency duties, environmental preventive measures, equipment, procedures and safety systems;
  • Ensure that new crew members or personnel transferred to new duties are provided with sufficient training and handover prior to being assigned to those duties according to Company instructions or beyond these;
  • Responsible to ensure that appraisals are conducted for all marine personnel in accordance with company procedures;
  • Responsible for ensuring that safety systems onboard, such as safety committees, inspections and permit-to-work systems are complied with;
  • Responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel whilst in transit, on location, berthing and un-berthing in port. During DP Operations, the Master shall ensure that Company requirements, IMCA Guidance and GOMO Guidance are complied with;
  • Responsible to ensure that all navigation officers are familiar and periodic trained in the operation of emergency switch over from auto to manual DP and emergency steering;
  • Act as Ship Security Officer (SSO) if so required by the Ship Security Plan;
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Ship Security Plan and for ensuring compliance with the ISPS Code;
  • The Master has overall budget responsibility for the Vessel;
  • Responsible to follow up the budget and all economy aspects including monthly/quarterly report of cost;
  • Make yearly budgets together with Management if required;
  • Responsible to ensure that the Company’s purchasing system is used by all marine departments onboard;
  • The Master is the primary link between the onshore management team and the Vessel Management. As such, the Master should ensure that the relevant shore personnel are kept advised regarding any issues that may affect the safe…
