Photonic is seeking a talented Optical Engineer to support the design and engineering of optical sub‑systems that advance our quantum computing roadmap. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Ph.D. graduate or Postdoctoral Fellow to apply deep technical expertise in a collaborative, fast‑paced product development environment.
In this role, you will work closely with cross‑functional science and engineering teams to transition optical sub‑system designs from research prototypes into reliable, manufacturable solutions. You will contribute to the design, modeling, build, and testing of sub‑systems incorporating precision optical sources, single‑photon fiber networks, and in‑system telemetry within the O‑band regime, ensuring alignment with system‑level requirements.
You are a hands‑on problem solver who thrives in a research‑driven environment and is excited to help translate cutting‑edge photonics research into scalable quantum technologies.
What We Need You To Do- Contribute to optical design and validation flows (tools, modeling approaches, and testing methodologies)
- Support the specification and modeling of optical link architectures
- Assist in developing fiber‑based electro‑optical assemblies and sub‑systems using state‑of‑the‑art photonic technologies
- Perform optical characterization, testing, and data analysis to validate performance against requirements
- Track technical performance metrics (e.g., stability, reliability, noise sensitivity, environmental robustness)
- Collaborate with integrated photonics and quantum systems teams to ensure cross‑functional alignment
- Contribute to telemetry and control schemes for monitoring and optimizing optical parameters critical to system performance
- Support evaluation of new component technologies and contribute to innovation efforts
- Ph.D. in Optics, Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field (recent graduates and Postdoctoral Fellows encouraged to apply)
- Strong foundation in fiber‑based optical systems (C‑ or O‑band experience preferred)
- Experience with optical modeling, simulation, and data analysis tools
- Hands‑on experience with optical test instrumentation and laboratory measurement techniques
- Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for data analysis and automation
- Demonstrated ability to translate research concepts into practical experimental or prototype systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience transitioning research systems toward manufacturable or scalable solutions
- Familiarity with CAD/modeling tools (e.g., Solid Works, Lumerical, Altium)
- Exposure to intellectual property development or technology commercialization
- Experience in a startup or high‑growth research environment
- Work closely with some of the brightest innovators in quantum technologies to drive breakthroughs that redefine computing
- Enjoy a fast‑paced and fun environment where you can try new things while solving innovative challenges every day
- Inclusive company culture that values collaboration
- Regular social events and fun activities keep our global team connected
- Competitive compensation package including base salary, stock options, and relocation assistance for global talent
- Comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, life, long‑term disability, an employee assistance program, parental leave top‑ups, and a flexible spending account
While artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to assist in reviewing applicant profiles, they do not determine candidate outcomes. Our hiring decisions are made by people, not algorithms. We are committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We embrace and encourage our employees’ differences, knowing that these very differences inspire innovation and build better teams.
