Job Summary

The Team

The Highway Design and Geomatics Engineering team provides engineering leadership, technical expertise, and project delivery support for the planning, design, construction, operation, and long-term resilience of British Columbia's transportation infrastructure.

The Role

The Senior Engineering Manager Highway Design Services provides leadership and strategic direction for the delivery of complex highway design, transportation infrastructure, and multidisciplinary engineering projects within the Northern Region and Southern Interior.

The position is responsible for establishing program priorities, directing project delivery strategies, managing financial and human resources, and overseeing consultant teams.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements
  • University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent post-secondary degree, with a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Related experience includes, but is not limited to:

  • Experience in highway design and construction of projects of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Experience supervising and/or providing direction to staff or project teams.
  • Experience working with, and providing advice and counsel to, senior management and executives; and building effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
  • You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC ).

    Note:

    "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
  • Applicants holding a Professional Licence (P.L.Eng.) in a relevant discipline may be considered provided the licence scope permits the individual to independently perform the full duties of the position. This includes:
    • Providing technical direction to staff and consultants,
    • Exercising professional judgement,
    • Reviewing and accepting engineering deliverables,
    • Recommending, reviewing and accepting design variances,
    • Supervising professional practice activities,
    • Consultant management, and
    • Assuming professional responsibility for engineering work within the program areas assigned to the position.

The scope of practice associated with the Professional Licence must be sufficient to support leadership and professional oversight of the full range of highway design projects delivered by the work unit.

  • Travel throughout the province is required; must be willing and able to drive and travel in all weather conditions to other MOTI office locations and project sites.
